I've had both.  Motorhome wins hands-down.  The pickup camper is cramped,
heavy, inconvenient, unweildy and ugly.  Loading and unloading is sufficient
work that you probably won't do it very often.  The rig will end up sitting in
your back yard most of the time, unfortunately.  Or else, like we did, you'll
park it in an RV park and never move it.

My 21 ft Class C is at least 1500 lbs lighter than my old F-250/camper combo,
gets better mileage, handles vastly better, especially in the wind, and has a
LOT more room. Plus I have a generator and an 80 lb propane tank - neither of
which are very practical with a camper.  And unless you happened to get a
camper special truck(are those even still available) or one of the very heavy
duty trucks, it is likely that the pickup will be overloaded.  The handling
and acceleration will reflect that.  Last but not least, you still have the
hassle of having to exit the truck to the outside to get to the camper.  With
a MH, you just stand up and walk back.  Very nice when it's cold or wet out or
you're in a place where you really don't want to be caught outside for very
long.

The best solution would be to have both a truck and a MH.  Even if the truck
has to be a beater.  OR, as in my case when my beater pickup is down, use the
MH for hauling stuff.  A little plastic sheeting on the floor will protect the
carpet from whatever you're hauling :-)
