Mostly, this article is self-serving baloney, parrotting the party line from
the American Society of Anesthesiology. Intravenous conscious sedation with
Versed and Demerol/Fentanyl has an exceptional safety record and is only
rarely administered by anesthesiologists or anesthetists. Propofol, OTOH, I
agree is tricky stuff and should be administered and monitored closely by an
anesthetist who uses it routinely.
